Course Objectives

Subject skills
To practice drama in teaching students need to develop their knowledge of dramatic design.
Students will learn about:
· Dramatic play and theatrical art’s basic elements and tools.
· Various dramatic forms of expression such as dramatisation, improvisation, tableaux and narration
· Play and structuring of play
· Learning through drama
Didactic competence
Students will learn that drama may be used as a method of learning: through active identification using fictional roles and situations, pupils learn to explore and investigate topics and relationships between people.
Students will learn about:
· Drama in the Knowledge Promotion Curriculum / LK06
· Various dramatic forms of expression and tools related to subjects and topics
· Planning, implementation and assessment of drama-pedagogical work in schools

Course Description

The course will provide an introduction to drama and didactic drama work. The drama course is based largely on collective approaches and provides the basis for the development of social skills. Drama work often requires ethical considerations, and students must be able to develop capacity for reflection concerning the use of the subject and the choice of methods.

Learning Methods

Drama as a Method is an obligatory part of the General Teacher Education degree programme and is taught during the first two years. Students are responsible for keeping them informed about the consequences of lack of attendance.
The teaching and learning methods include teacher-guided workshops and seminars. It is expected that students study some of the relevant theory through individual study.
Drama as a Method relates to subjects during the first and second years of the General Teacher Education programme.
In interdisciplinary projects students will be able to use drama as a method, and drama as a form of documentation.

Assessment Methods

Requirements for achieving a passing mark for the course Drama as a Method:
· Work with dramatic presentation: passing mark
· An internship-based assignment: passing mark
· Participation in class
