Dimensioning of Concrete Structures BYY5007
Course Objectives
After completing the course, the students will:
- Be able to dimension concrete girders, slabs, pillars, simple foundations and walls which comply with pertinent breaking-point standards.
- Be able to check for deformation and incipient cracking under use-limit.
Course Description
Dimensioning
Principles of dimensioning. Control of breaking-point of moment, shearing force, axial force and slim compression members. Control of working load; incipient crack and deformation conditions with effects of slippage and contraction. Slabs, girders, columns, walls and foundations.
Learning Methods
Lectures and calculation-exercises.
Assessment Methods
A final grade is assigned on the basis of 1 mid-term examination which counts for 30%, and a final examination which counts for 70%.
Before the student is allowed to take the final examination, at least 75% of the exercises must be completed and approved.
The final examination must receive a passing grade in order to pass the course.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
