Organic Chemistry KJY1308
Course Objectives
Acquire knowledge of
-some functional groups as alkanes, alcohol, aromatic substances, carboxylic acid etc.
-the most important reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry
-nomenclature IUPAC-system
-physical properties of the functional groups
Course Description
Bondings in organic chemistry, overview of the functional groups, nomenclature, nucleophiles, electrophiles, resonance effect, steric effect, reaction mechanisms. The most important reaction mechanisms for different functional groups. General mechanisms for substitution, elimination and addition mechanisms.
Learning Methods
Lectures and exercises.
Assessment Methods
Continuous assessment counts for 35%.
The final examination 65%.
In order to achieve a passing grade for the course a total assessment will be made of the student's continuous assessment and final examination. This assessment must satisfy minimum requirements represented by the grade E. At least 20% of the students’ answers in the final examination must be correct.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
