Course Objectives

The student will:

Understand the importance of integrating knowledge and interpretative approaches of the social sciences and nursing in general and in relation to individual patients and groups especially.

Identify and further develop one’s own attitudes and values related to people with different cultural backgrounds.

Have knowledge of the legal system as a framework factor and the scope of action in the municipal health services.

Be able to read, evaluate and apply research literature/articles that have special relevance for course 14.

Course unit 14A: Culture – and Understanding of Health in an International Perspective

Globalisation and health

Migration and health

The relationship between social development and mental illness

Today’s health panorama: nationally and internationally

Course unit 14B: The Municipal Health Service: its Legal System and Organisation

The welfare state’s steering principles in relation to the elderly and mentally ill

The welfare state’s organisation of the municipal health service and mental health work

Classroom teaching and group work.

Assessment Methods

Individual examination. Assessed with graded mark (4.5 ECTS).
