Target Group and Admission Requirements

The study programme is intended for Scandinavian students with 2 years of basic education in sports, outdoor activities or other fields of study.

Aim of the Programme

The students will develop an understanding of Scandinavian outdoor activities through a practical-pedagogical as well as a cultural approach. The study programme will improve the students’ personal skills as well as their ability to analyse and make assessments. Through the study programme, the students will gain insight into how outdoor activities are practiced in Scandinavia. They will acquire an understanding of, and skills in, the types of outdoor activities that are characteristic for particular countries and develop insight into both the traditions and trends in these activities. Practical outdoor activities form a context for experience-based understanding of tradition and trends in open-air activities in specific countries, and insight into developments in outdoor activities based upon both Scandinavian and international perspectives.

The study programme is based upon outdoor activities viewed from practical and theoretical Scandinavian perspectives. This involves defining and analysing the similarities and differences between the Scandinavian countries with respect to how these activities are practiced. The intention of the study programme is to give students the required background for advanced studies at Master’s degree level and allow them to carry out more specialised work on cultural-analysis and comparative approaches. The study programme will also provide qualification for teaching within a selected discipline of a particular country’s outdoor activities.

The study programme is part of the Nordplus cooperative programme, and provides Scandinavian competence; cf. previously approved and established Scandinavian networks for sports education.
