Sports Science, bachelor

Target Group and Admission Requirements

The target group consists of applicants who meet general admission requirements and who are seeking a professional education in sports-related subjects with specialisation in training-, mediation- or administrative activities.

Aim of the Programme

Specialisation in administration and management

The study programme in sports, administration and leadership is interdisciplinary and professionally oriented. It will qualify candidates for sports-related administrative tasks and leadership in the public, private and volunteer-based sectors. Students will familiarise themselves with various aspects of the programme through practical tasks and surveys, and thus experience how theory and reality interact. Through the learning process, students will develop an understanding of organisation and leadership, skills in organisation, planning and executing various projects, and gain insight into sports policies.

Specialisation in training and motion

The study programme is an interdisciplinary and professionally oriented education emphasising knowledge and skills in practical sports, with frequent reference to several theoretical fields. Instruction will be given in courses in the subject areas: natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, which are all important in understanding the practical aspects of sports.

Further Education opportunities

The Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science serves as a basis for applying for the two-year Master’s-degree programme Physical Education, Sport & Outdoor Life Studies.

Specialisation in administration and management

The study programme attempts to provide a broad introduction to the framework requirements for sports, physical education and outdoor activities in our society. In addition, the programme addresses central administrative challenges and tasks associated with this subject area. Students will gain experience in planning and carrying out sports arrangements and receive an introduction to topics in sports policy related to economics, media, sponsoring, business, marketing etc.

Specialisation in training and motion

The first year of study consists of approximately equal amounts of practical and theoretical instruction. Sports will be presented through instruction and teaching assignments and related to various theoretical approaches. During the 3rd and 4th semesters of the programme, the emphasis will be on social-scientific aspects including the status of sports in society, the relationship between athletes and trainers, learning and leadership in sports and sports-psychology. The natural sciences are also important in relation to training and sports-biology. The final year of study provides a specialisation in subjects which are relevant to the primary sport which the student has selected to study in depth. The specialisation sport will be emphasised in both the second and third years of the programme.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The study programme is interdisciplinary and problem- and project-oriented. The integration of theoretical and practical aspects of activities is an indispensable element of the programme. Throughout the programme, students will be followed up by using teaching and learning methods which include practice, teaching under supervision and report-writing (portfolios), projects, group- and seminar meetings, lectures, etc.

Assessment Methods

The students will be evaluated through participation, practical/methodological examinations, various written assignments, written final examinations and oral presentation of student work.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
