Target Group and Admission Requirements

This study programme is an extension and specialisation course based on the main themes of the one-year study programme, and provides a more thorough and detailed understanding of the topics previously covered.

The admission requirement is the completion of the one-year introductory English study programme (60 ECTS) or the equivalent. The target group includes all those who wish to improve their competence in English beyond the scope of the one-year introductory study programme.

Further Education opportunities

Specialisation in English at the Bachelor’s degree level requires at least 20 ECTS points in addition to the one-year study programme (which counts for 60 ECTS points). A bachelor’s degree which includes this specialisation will meet the requirements for admission to a Master’s degree programme in English.

The study programme, which is taught during the autumn semester, builds further on the one-year introductory study programme in English, and can be used as part of a Bachelor’s degree, with various levels of specialisation in English. The advanced study programme can provide a basis for admission to a Master’s degree programme in English, but one should be aware that requirements for advanced studies in English may vary from one institution to another. For example, some institutions require a successful examination in linguistics (2701 Linguistics). Your advanced studies must therefore correspond to the requirements of the university where you intend to apply for admission. This study programme consists of courses worth 10 ECTS points. One course is normally in literature and cultural knowledge, and one is in language.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The teaching and learning methods vary somewhat from one topic to the next, but will include lectures, seminars, written and oral project work and written submissions. All instruction is carried out in English.

Assessment Methods

Both courses will be subject to continuous and final assessment. The methods will vary, but will include home assignments, oral examinations and written classroom examinations.
