953 ICT in Education, fordypning

Introduction

In the Knowledge Promotion reform, digital competence is considered just as valuable as skills such as reading, writing and mathematics and forms part of a comprehensive approach that incorporates learning strategies and social competence. Digital competence is applied to concrete situations and built into the educational programmes for all compulsory education. ICT is described as part of a collective developmental strategy.

This study programme covers the pedagogic use of ICT in schools. ICT opens up new pedagogic challenges and possibilities, including new forms of contact between students and between students and instructors. ICT education should function as a tool and knowledge platform for subjects in general teacher education programmes. The operative knowledge and skills which the students acquire through teaching experience and supervision will eventually be used to expand on content and form in other educational situations.

The students will be expected to apply what they learn and continue to expand their understanding of ICT. In order to participate, the students must be familiar with standard ICT tools and have access to a personal computer with standard programs and Internet access. The students must possess a thorough understanding of applicable systems for learning and publication - learning management systems (LMS).

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching extends over the entire academic year and is primarily based on workshop seminars, and teaching via the Internet between workshops. The study programme is based on varied teaching and learning methods such as lectures, seminars, work with computers individually and in groups, study trips and portfolio work. Course material will be reviewed partly in lectures, and also in groups and individually.
Absence from the mandatory activities as specified in the semester plan (practical work with computers, group activities, presentations, etc.) and lack of submitted work - for any reason - should be replaced with equivalent academic activity / submitted work by agreement with the lecturer. In order to be permitted to take the examination, mandatory parts of the study programme must be completed and approved by the lecturer.
Students will have access to computer labs at the college.
Information concerning any study trips, their scope and content, will be clarified in consultation with the students within 2 months after the semester start.
Organisation and teaching and learning methods will be adapted to different target groups and local conditions in the case of external implementation and distance learning of the study programme.

Theory and Practical Training

Students who take the study programme as part of a General Teacher Education programme will do their period of teaching practice as specified in the teaching practice plan of The Faculty of Arts, Folk Culture and Teacher Education. Students who have already completed their teaching practice, and had it approved, must write a subject didactics assignment during the teaching practice period.

Emphasis is placed on using theoretical knowledge in practice; this is among others addressed by practical experience in the school where the student will use information technology in school subjects.

Assessment Methods

Refer to the course descriptions.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
