Organisation Theory and Management II 1044
Course Objectives
Students will acquire a basic understanding of organisation and management, enabling them to understand the challenges associated with administration and management of sports. More specifically, the course will provide students with basic theoretical knowledge of how sports’ organizations work, and also provide a critical understanding of key principles, structures and processes that shape organized sport and its relationship with its environment.
Course Description
Students will receive an introduction to general organisation-related information. The course will examine organisations and their relationship with their environment, effort-factors and results. There will also be a focus on management theories, management qualities, communication and interaction.
Various themes related to the individual, organisation and society will be discussed such as the conditions for voluntary work, democracy in sport, and sport’s role in a democracy. Policy, strategy and method in today’s sport organisations and institutions will also be emphasised.
Learning Methods
Teaching and learning methods include individual work, group work, lectures and visits. Instruction is given in the autumn and spring semesters. Students must expect a significant amount of self-study in relation to the home examination. Participation in seminars and visits is mandatory. Lack of participation may be replaced by assignments.
Assessment Methods
A 5-hour individual written examination which counts for 40% of the final grade.
A 5-day home examination which counts for 60% of the final grade.
Graded marks.
Participation in seminars and visits is mandatory.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
