The Individual, Environs and Society - Winter 1244
Course Objectives
The course aims to develop an understanding of traditions shaping the Norwegian view on the individual, environs and society, and the role skiing has played. The course will give insight into tradition and trends in winter acticvities as well as the history of Telemark skiing.
Course Description
During the course the students will be introduced to the role skiing has played and still plays in the Norwegian society, and how the society manage the outdoor activities during wintertime. Historical and political facts in relation to Norwegian Friluftsliv will be discussed.
Experiental learning is an integral part of the course, and will give the students an opportunity to practice skiing as well as understand the value of physical activity in the outdoors.
Skis and boots will be provided. Excursions are mandatory.
Learning Methods
2-3 hrs/week, 16 weeks, spring semester ( variable organization due to teaching method)
Lecture, group work, individual study, excursions. English is the course language.
Please note that there are extra fees connected to this course since the students will have to pay for transportation. Approx. N.kr. 500,-
Assessment Methods
One graded take home paper. Compulsory field trips.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
