Course Objectives

The main target is to give students knowledge about how to develop well functioning control and automation solutions for industrial processes. Students shall be able to understand how to use basic control (PID control), advanced control (e.g. model predictive control) and real-time optimisation as well as safety functions to achieve both safe, stable and economic operation of industrial plants.

Course Description

Need for control in a process. Control structure to ensure stable operation. Ratio-, cascade- and split control etc to enhance control performance. Safety functions. Control hiearchy, advanced control and real-time optimisation. Automation of continous and batch processes. Elements of project management in automation projects.
