Learning outcome

The students should after completing the course have:

- Knowledge about what entrepreneurship is in the context of tourism both in a national and international context.

- Basic understanding of the difference between entrepreneurship and innovation.

- Knowledge about what separates entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in the context of tourism from other industries.

- Knowledge about the framework and support opportunities for entrepreneurship.

- Be able to have a critical and reflective approach to opportunities and challenges associated with entrepreneurship in tourism.

- Knowledge and understanding of different aspects of entrepreneurship in a regional/rural context.

Course Description

The course will discuss different sides and aspects related to the linkage between tourism and entrepreneurship in both a national and international context, including perspectives on entrepreneurship and innovation, characteristics of the tourism industry, and tourism as a regional and local development factor. Assumptions and constraints related to entrepreneurship in a tourism context are examined and questioned. The students will individually or in pairs work with a selected case of mandatory assignments that must be passed in order to take the exam.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Normally, 3 hours of lectures per week in the spring semester. Tuition will vary between traditional lectures, guest lectures, case work, student presentations and assignments. In addition, we undertake some excursions. Excursions are normally mandatory.

Assessment Methods

Oral presentation of a theme (pass / fail)
b) Case assignments (40%). Each case hand-in must qualify for a passing grade
c) Written test, 4 hours (60%)

Classified grades (A-F). For the approval of assessment, all examinations must be passed.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
