Course Description
The student will submit a Bachelor’s thesis, which constitutes an independent project. It should be a practically-oriented piece of work, specializing within the areas of techniques, materials or themes concerning which the student raises interesting and relevant questions. He/she will receive supervision (which is obligatory); he/she will be expected to work methodically and systematically, maintaining a clear and relevant focus.
The work can be carried out using various materials and techniques, but must remain within the selected area of study.
Students enrolled on the Subject Teacher: Practical & Arts Subjects study programme may adopt an interdisciplinary approach, in which the project may also relate to the subjects of Norwegian, drama and music, as well as arts and crafts.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The student will receive training in conducting an independent project involving research. He/she will be given the opportunity to specialise in one or more aspects of the subject, and develop his/her ability to analyse and organise work. The student will prepare a reading list of about 200 pages for the thesis project, which should be referred to in the project.
The Bachelor’s thesis will consist of a practical-aesthetic piece of work, thorough documentation, appropriate theoretical background and a written report prepared in accordance with the usual requirements for report writing. It should be presented so that the approach chosen and working methods are readily apparent, and the work should be completed in an appropriate and satisfactory manner.
The student, in consultation with the teacher, will choose the topic/area of research.
Assessment Methods
It is a requirement for the Bachelor’s thesis/final project that the student has received supervision. The student is responsible for contacting the teacher to arrange this.
The title of the Bachelor’s thesis/final project will be entered on the diploma. A grade will be awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the highest and E the lowest passing grade. Please refer to Telemark University College Examination Regulations for more information.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
