After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
The candidate has knowledge of:
- Historical change and social conditions in Norway and Europe from WW1 to European integration today
- Regions and regional development in Europe
- The socialization and identity of youth
Skills
The candidate can:
- Apply basic social studies concepts, approaches and theories in his/her professional practice
- Reflect on and demonstrate understanding of historical processes
- Master and evaluate the use of social studies tools and expressions in the discipline
General competence
The candidate can:
- Update his/her professional knowledge and reflect on his/her own practice
- Reflect critically on social studies issues
Course Description
The course focuses on Norway and Europe, specifically recent European and Norwegian history, knowledge of the regions and regional development in Europe, as well as the socialization and identity of youth.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course uses varied and active teaching and learning methods such as class discussions, lectures, seminars, working with sources and writing assignments.
Parts of the course are obligatory. Information concerning this will be provided in the semester plan.
Assessment Methods
Continuous assessment
Group assignments / exercises presented orally to the class. Assessed on a pass / fail basis.
Final assessment
Formal essay, which counts for 1/3 of the final grade.
Five-day take-home examination, which counts for 2/3 of the final grade.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
