2428 Digital Media Design 2: Online w/ Workshops

Introduction

Digital media design is a field that has great contemporary relevance. This study programme focuses mainly on screen-based processes in digital and media productions; a large and broad field that includes processes in the area of graphics, 3D and audiovisual fields. The study programme aims to cover new areas in the digital media field and examines social media, tablets, mobile media, 3D and other new digital-based technology areas in relation to attitudes and knowledge in the new media community. The study programme is a one-year study programme (60 ECTS) that consists of four courses (15 ECTS) which may be taken separately.

Target Group and Admission Requirements

Applicants should have basic knowledge in bitmap and vector-based programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, software for web design such as Adobe Dreamweaver and video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro. Media literacy is considered to be an essential skill in education today. Although teachers are a key target group for the study programme, others are also welcome to apply.

Admission requirements: Students must meet general admission requirements. It is also possible to apply for admission on the basis of prior experiential learning. The study programme builds on knowledge and skills developed in the four courses of Digital Media Design 1.

  • Provide further skills for students who have completed their teacher or pre-school teacher education
  • Constitute part of a multidisciplinary Bachelor’s degree.
  • Provide the necessary foundation for admission to the study programme Subject Teacher: Education in the Arts.
  • Provide the necessary foundation for admission to the Master’s degree programme Art & Design Education.

  • Is familiar with the ethical issues related to media production
  • Has acquired basic knowledge of media criticism

The study programme courses are 15 ECTS each and are organized as an online study programme in conjunction with workshops. Each course comprises approximately 380 hours of work, consisting of 80 hours in the workshops, lectures and supervision. The study programme is also open to campus students.

The study programme consists of the following courses. * Students may choose Student Enterprise or Digital Media Literacy as the fourth course in the study programme:

  • 3D-Design and Illustration - 3D 201 (15 ECTS)

Teaching and Learning Methods

The studies are organised as online learning with workshops. It is also open to campus students. The study programme includes video-conferenced teaching, seminars and supervision. Teachers and students will be able to post images, answers and other documents as well as links to other Internet addresses. Students will receive training in the use of the learning platform.
Communication between student and the university college is done via the Internet. Students must have access to a computer with word-processing software, e-mail and Internet, and to specific programmes for each of the courses. The study programme is characterised by the interaction between practical creative work, theoretical orientation and reflection. Instruction includes lectures (and lecture notes). The study programme includes programme requirements regarding participation and assignments that must be submitted. Students are encouraged to form groups; the university college will assist the students in this process.

Theory and Practical Training

This study programme does not include a period of practical training.

Assessment Methods

Continual informal supervision and evaluation is a part of the learning process and a means for the student to gain greater insight into their own academic requirements for further studies and future professional careers.

Students will submit individual and group assignments for each course. Assignments will be submitted at given deadlines to the teacher for approval / comments.

All the assignments included in the individual courses must be passed before students can receive a diploma.
The examination consists of an individual project with a grade that is recorded on the diploma. The final grade is on a scale from A to F, where A is the highest possible grade, and E is the lowest passing grade.
Grades will be determined according to Telemark University College’s Examination Regulations.

The study programme may be subject to minor adjustments.

Suitability

The study programme does not include suitability assessment.
