Introduction

Mathematics is an important aspect of our culture, both as a science and as a tool in a variety of fields, including other sciences. Mathematics also plays a major role in many forms of creative activity. Consequently, mathematics is a major subject in primary and secondary schools as well as in general teacher education programmes.

In learning mathematics students will approach the subject in a variety of contexts, and there will be a particular focus on key skills in mathematics, the subject’s uniqueness, and children’s learning of mathematics.

Teachers who wish to continue their education in mathematics.

Aim of the Programme

The study programme will examine important mathematical topics such as functions, statistics and probability. The teaching aspect is emphasised, and students will also become more familiar with mathematics on its own terms. It is a goal that students who have specialised in mathematics will be able to function as resource persons in the subject area. The aims are described in detail in each of the modules (below).

Mathematics 2 is divided into various areas of study:

• Module 1 covers the theory of functions
• Module 2 covers the topics statistics and probability
• Didactics is integrated into both modules.

The two modules are each worth 15 ECTS, providing a total of 30 ECTS.
