Course Objectives
To gain familiarity with the basic functions of modern data networks. Be able to establish and operate a local network.
Course Description
Hardware in local networks, nettwork operating systems, design of local networks, topology. Communication protocols in local networks, communication with peripheral equipment, modem communication and ISDN. Services in local and remote networks, client-server systems, network monitoring systems, logging on and reporting. Data security and wireless networks. Practical assignments in the use, organisation and operation of PC-based local networks.
Learning Methods
Lectures and practical assignments.
Assessment Methods
One mid-term assessment (counting 30%) and a final examination which will count for 70% of the final grade. The assessment and the final examination are written.
