Course Objectives

Become acquainted with the history of quality thinking. Understand the key concepts for work with quality. Be able to contribute to work in an effective team. Understand the meaning of the process in quality work. Be able to apply the basic TQM tools in dealing with deviations, standardisation and quality improvement.

Become familiar with HMS - the directives and their background.

Learn about the range of internal controls and HMS-work in activities of varying types and dimensions.

Be able to demonstrate how activities can work in a systematic manner with health, environment and safety improvements.

After completing the course, the student will be able to work as an HMS-representative in smaller operations or as a quality coordinator in an enterprise.

• The 4 quality dimensions and interested parties
• The PDCA-wheel, 5M, 5H/1N
• Process management, dealing with deviations, standardising, KF
• Basic tools
• Charting and risk evaluation. Policy and goals. Action plans.
• Education and information. Mapping processes and creating flow-diagrams.
• Working out the required descriptions and procedures. Implementation.
• Deviation management. HMS - rounds. Internal audits. Comments from the leadership.
• Improving processes and procedures. Preventative actions.
• Tools in HMS work

Assessment Methods

Project work (40%) and final examination (60%).

In order to sit the final examination, the project report must be approved.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
