Course Objectives

The course will provide students with an introduction to the fundamental methods of biotechnology. The emphasis will be on problem-solving based on these methods, and the reporting of results.

Course Description

Topics:
Extraction of DNA from blood and hair
PCR set up and optimalization
RFLP
Sequencing and fragment analysis
FISH (Fluoresence in situ hybridisering)
IHC (Immunhistokjemi)

Learning Methods

80 hours of laboratory exercises and lessons in laboratory techniques.

Assessment Methods

Grades will be given for two part-exams: the laboratory reports will be given a cumulative grade which counts for 50% of the final grade, and a 3-hour written final examination will count for the other 50% of the final grade. The laboratory reports must have been submitted prior to taking the final examination, and all must have received passing grades.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
