Elective in World History 3503
Course Objectives
This course will provide students with more comprehensive knowledge in two electives, one taken from the period of history before 1750 and one from the period of history after 1750. The required reading for each course consists of roughly 350 pages. The course provides an interpretative and deeper understanding of history in comparison to the overview syllabus.
Course Description
Students will be required to choose two electives, one taken from the period of history before 1750 and one from the period of history after 1750. Information will be provided in the semester plan about which courses will be taught each semester. The following list provides examples of courses which have been offered before, and which may be offered again:
- Society and Politics in Rome
- Roman Imperialism
- The Slave Trade and Slavery
- The Outbreak of the First World War
- The Soviet Union after 1917
Learning Methods
The course will consist of seminars and some lectures.
Course requirements: Students must have two assignments approved for each of the elective courses in order to be allowed to take the final examination. In agreement with the teacher, one of these course assignments may be presented orally in the seminar. Instruction is normally provided in several courses. The instruction is normally compulsory, but in special cases exemption may be granted. Students who do not attend the teaching may limit their choice of courses; it is also possible they will be instructed to take certain courses and submit assignments etc., see the semester plan for history.
Assessment Methods
Final 6 hours school-examination at the end of the semester on the condition that all obligatory assignments have been approved.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
