Course Objectives
The purpose of the course is to provide an overview of Norwegian history from pre-historic times until about 1800.
Course Description
The course will focus on:
- The country and people from the Ice Age until the Viking Age
- Unification and Christianisation of Norway
- King and Church in the High Middle Ages
- The Middle Ages’ society
- The Plague and crisis
- Nordic unions and Nordic wars
- Trade and industry and social groups in the early Modern Age
- The power of the state and its subjects
Learning Methods
The course will consist of lectures and possibly some seminars.
Assessment Methods
Students will be required to take a 4-hour in-class examination at the end of the semester. The examination may be an essay question and/or a number of smaller questions.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
