Overview of Nordic History 3508

Course Objectives

The course will provide students with a brief introduction to the main outlines and events in Nordic history from the Middle Ages until 2000, and in addition there will be focus on more specific topics. Emphasis will be given to a discussion of the concept ‘Nordic’, and how by using comparative methods an analysis of similarities and differences between the Nordic countries may be carried out.

Course Description

This part of the programme provides the main outlines and events of Nordic history from the Middle Ages until today, and in addition introduces some specific topics.

- Should the Nordic region be seen as an integrated whole?

- What does the term ’Nordic’ really mean?

- How and why compare the Nordic countries?

Learning Methods

Lectures and seminars.

Assessment Methods

6-hour in-class examination.
