Course Objectives

The students will acquire a basic understanding of the development and administration of database systems, with an emphasis on data-oriented system development and relational databases, as well as develop skills in using tools associated with database systems.

Course Description

SQL and the relational model, data-oriented system development (data modelling) with E/R, realisation of E/R models as relational databases, normalisation theory, application development, database administration, the structure and function of database management systems, transactions and web databases.

Learning Methods

Lectures, exercises and independent study.

Assessment Methods

Continuous assessment (40%) and final written examination (60%).

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
