Business English for Erasmus Students Fall or Spring 6025
Course Objectives
The course will provide the opportunity for students to increase their oral and written competence in English for special purposes appropriate to international requirements. The specific focus will be in the area of international marketing, travel and tourism and business administration in general.
Course Description
The fall course will primarily focus on oral activities; the spring course will deal with written activities. The students will read and discuss business communication texts and business cases. Fall curriculum includes such topics as: perspectives on and barriers to communication; interviewing, preparing and giving presentations, developing a CV in English, managing meetings. The spring curriculum will focus on developing written business communication skills: documents such as letters, memos, reports, news releases, surveys, visual communication. Further, the students will gain insight into intercultural communication and aspects of culture in English-speaking countries.
Learning Methods
Lectures, group work, individual tasks, written exercises, oral presentations, report writing, email communication, case-studies and discussions. The language of instruction is English.
Assessment Methods
Fall semester: 4 mandatory, graded written exercises. An oral examination including an oral presentation and discussion of syllabus. All elements of the assessment must be passed to pass the course. Extension of portfolio deadlines will be considered upon individual application.
Spring semester: 4-6 mandatory, graded written exercises. 3-hour written, individual examination. All elements of the assessment: tasks, tests, final exam must be passed to pass the course. Extension of portfolio deadlines will be considered upon individual application.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
