Course Objectives
Provide students with knowledge about and practice in defining and planning a commercial development project.
Course Description
- Introduction to the topic entrepreneurship
- Entrepreneurship, networks and society
- Project work with supervision in the following related topics: Business idea – concretisation and ‘acid test’ – How to get to know the market? – Networks, organisation and team building – Economic management and risk analysis – Establishing an enterprise – Report writing and presentation.
Learning Methods
Students will work in groups. Each group will be allocated a main supervisor. Each group will work together on developing a specific business idea. This may involve to further develop the work completed on 5013 Product Development or any other area of interest the group decide to focus on. Course requirements will ensure students make progress on their project throughout the academic year. Teaching will be given in introductory and related courses.
Assessment Methods
Group assessment based on the following:
Pilot project report – submission mid-December (counts 30%)
Business plan/project report – submission mid-May (counts 60%)
Oral presentation for a panel mid-June (counts 10%)
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
