Mathematics II - linear algebra EE3209

Course Objectives

The students will:

  • Carry out calculations using complex numbers.
  • Solve basic linear algebraic problems related to equation systems.
  • Solve basic linear algebraic problems related to eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
  • Use linear-algebraic methods for solving applied problems, particularly within the field of electrical engineering.
  • Be able to use the Maple programme for all types of calculations and graphics in relation to assignments.

Course Description

Complex numbers: Basic calculations. Calculation with complex numbers in Cartesian, trigonometric and exponential forms. Equations with complex solutions

Linear algebra: Matrix algebra, vector spaces, equation systems, Gauss and Gauss–Jordan elimination, Eigenvalues and eigenvectors with applications. Application, especially in connection with equation systems and eigenvalues and eigenvectors.

Learning Methods

Lectures and exercises.

Assessment Methods

  • Maple-project in groups (with a maximum of 4 students per group) (30%) .
  • Individual written final examination (70%).

The final written examination must receive a passing grade.

During examinations, all printed and written aids, as well as laptops and calculators will be permitted.
