Fresh Water Fisheries and Water Resource Management 4207

Course Objectives

The course provides students with an overview of the most important fishery-biological problems for fresh water fish, as well as the management of waterways for inland fish.

Course Description

Important topics:

  • Introduction to fishery biology and ecological conditions for fresh water fish
  • An analysis of fish stocks and the use of central parameters
  • Affect on fish of environmental incursions and pollution
  • Management of water resources, waterways plans, management plans for fisheries
  • Development of hydroelectric power installations, restoration of waterways, conservation plans and multi-use of waterways
  • Adaptation to the EU Water Directive

Learning Methods

50 hours of lectures
Obligatory: 3 days of field work and 20 hours of supervision related to water chemical interpretation excerices.
Lectures, water chemical excercises, field work, as well as the study of textbooks and articles/reports. The field work focuses on major environmental threats to fresh water fish and subsequent mitigating measures.

Assessment Methods

The field work is obligatory and the water chemical interpretation report is avluated passed/not passed. The final examination in writing (4 hours) counts for 100% of the final grade. All assessed elements of the course must be passed to pass the course
