Noise Pollution and Air Hygiene 4259

Course Objectives

Students will be provided with the basic knowledge concerning noise pollution, indoor climate and light conditions, air pollution (outdoors) and purification methods and radiation. The course will provide students with the knowledge and skills to carry out and evaluate analyses in these fields. Further, the students shall make proposals for measures in connection with control and inspection tasks within environmental health protection, working environments and company health services etc.

Course Description

Important lecture themes:
 Noise: elementary sound theory, sound perception, noise in buildings, special types of noise, measurement of noise and calculation methods for traffic noise
 Indoor climate: oversensitive, thermal and atmospheric indoor climate, ventilation and light conditions
 Air pollution and purification methods: types and sources of air pollution, dispersation theory, purification methods for particles and gasses
 Radioactive contamination: radiation concepts and sizes, types and sources of radiation, health dangers and radiation with special emphasis on radon

Learning Methods

46 hours of lectures.
Obligatory: 27 hours of laboratory exercises in environmental hygienic measurement techniques.

Assessment Methods

Grades will be given for two part-exams: a mid-term examination (3 hours) counts for 50% and a final examination (3 hours) counts for 50% of the final grade.
The environmental-hygienic measuring technique course must be approved before students can take the final examination. Both part-exams must achieve pass marks.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
