Basic skiing – experiential learning 1245
Course Objectives
The aim of the program is to introduce the students to basic skiing in an experimential learning method.
After having completed the course, the student should be able to:
• ski in different terrain and under different snow conditions
• ski in - and out of ski tracks
• use different cross-country skiing techniques
• discuss practical and pedagogical issues concerning basic skiing skills
• discuss and use historical facts according to Norwegian skiing tradition
Course Description
• Basic skills in skiing
• Experiential learning and experiential skiing
• Cross-country skiing
• Backcountry skiing - Telemark skiing
• High activity - many repetitions
• Clothing and equipment
• Historical perspectives- traditions and trends
Learning Methods
Lectures, individual work and group work, excursions, experiential and problem-based learning
Assessment Methods
The hikes and excursions are compulsory. One graded written exam in groups.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
