Sports Planning II 1025
Course Objectives
Students will gain insight into social planning, facility and land-use planning, sports policies, ideas, strategies, goals, measures and means associated with sport and outdoor activity organisations, as well as relevant authorities/institutions and private enterprises/businesses and their initiatives. The course provides students with knowledge and a basis for reflection of sport and outdoor activity issues through guidance, teamwork and independent work.
Course Description
The course focuses on society’s need for locations, areas and facilities (public spaces) viewed in the context of organised and privately arranged play, exercise, training and competition in challenging, safe and pleasant surroundings.
The functional, aesthetic and environmental aspects of the development of public areas for sports, physical training and outdoor activities will be discussed. Physical, social and cultural factors will be emphasised in this context. New and modern types of facilities will also be discussed. Other themes taken up in this course will depend largely on the types of joint project which students choose. The learning process in this course will contribute to the acquisition of knowledge, theory, methods and models associated with the joint project.
Learning Methods
Fifty hours of lectures, project work (10 hours) and 3-5 field trips spread over the academic year including student work, guidance, lectures/study, seminars and field trips.
Assessment Methods
The submission of four portfolio assignments counts for 40% of the final mark. All four assignments must receive passing marks before the student will be permitted to undertake the group examination.
7-day group examination which counts for 60% of the final grade in the course. A common mark is given to the group.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
