Course Objectives
The course has two main aims:
1) To provide an overview of the main tourist flows and the main explanatory mechanisms
which can account for them.
2) To provide knowledge of marketing with an emphasis on tourism
Course Description
The course will provide students with an overview of the main tourist flows both nationally and internationally. Students will also learn about the key reasons and motives for the movement of tourists; learn to describe tourist behaviour and analyse tourist potential/market potential in a specific area. Students will acquire knowledge of how tourism businesses and destinations market tourism products, and which distribution and marketing channels are used.
Learning Methods
3 hours per week in the autumn semester. The course will include traditional lectures, seminars, practical assignments, student presentations, obligatory written reports and submitted work.
Assessment Methods
Portfolio assessment with two written term papers (which count for 30 % of the grade), an oral presentation (10 %) and a final written examination, 4 hours (60 %). Students must receive passing marks on all parts of the assessment.
