Practical Training Studies: Specialisation and Bachelor’s Thesis 070-E10
Course Objectives
When students have completed course 10 they will:
Competence
- be able to relate critically and reflectively on their own work and on topics in the field of child welfare
- be able to demonstrate the ability to explore professional issues in a systematic and reflective manner
- be able to show an independent ability to document, quality-assure and evaluate their own work
- be able to further develop understanding and recognition of the importance of knowledge production for professional development by carrying out work that leads to a Bachelor’s thesis
The goal of practical training studies is that students will gain practical experience in child welfare work, develop ethical reflection and develop their own knowledge, attitudes and skills. Practical training studies will help develop students’ independence and skills in the profession in different arenas, as a preparation for future professional roles.
In terms of work load, the practical training studies comprise 16 ECTS credits of course 10. Submission of the Bachelor’s thesis requires that the practical training studies have received a passing mark.
Course Description
The content of the course is based on the national curriculum’s requirements regarding the distribution of credits, which functions as a guideline for the clarification of the course plan.
National and local knowledge, health and social policy - 3 ECTS credits; scientific theory and research methodology - 2 ECTS credits; sociology and social anthropology - 2 ECTS credits; general, and social psychology - 2 ECTS credits; clinical psychology and mental health - 2 ECTS credits; general and special education - 3 ECTS credits; social pedagogy - 2 ECTS credits; ethics and professional roles - 2 ECTS credits; communication, interaction and conflict resolution - 3 ECTS credits; child care initiatives - 3 ECTS credits; community work - 3 ECTS credits; activities subjects – 3ECTS credits.
The student’s area of specialisation and practical training location should be professionally challenging and relevant to the core areas of knowledge.
Learning Methods
Practical training studies; supervision; seminars; self-study; group work; written and oral presentations.
Assessment Methods
Course code 070-E10: Specialisation – Bachelor’s thesis and oral examination.
The Bachelor’s thesis comprises 14 ECTS and is based on the practical training. During the period of practical training, the students should apply child welfare skills in the planning, implementation and evaluation of work which the practical training location is able to accommodate. The student should also obtain the necessary data for the work that will be carried out.
The Bachelor’s thesis is a group assignment, but individual responses can also be approved.
