Course Description

Learning and leadership in sport and outdoor life

  • The significance of contextual information on people’s knowledge and skills
  • Various theoretical approaches to coaching
  • Coaching as a strategy for learning and leadership
  • Motivation and mastering skills
  • Health and well-being
  • The social learning-environment
  • Mental training

Students will learn to interpret, understand and criticise theory-based research within the above fields, and to understand the relationships between the theories, research and the development of practical intervention techniques.

Assessment Methods

A trial lecture of roughly 30 minutes on a specified theme, and a submitted and approved manuscript. The manuscript should illustrate the student’s capacity to work independently, and be completed by the student on their own. Graded results. The course requires a minimum of 75% attendance.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
