Sociology of Sport III 1111
Course Description
Approaches such as phenomenology, new-realism, post-structuralism, system theory and feminist theory, as well as classical theories such as Marx, Simmel, Weber, Durkheim, Cooley and Goffmann will be examined in the lectures and seminars. By using examples from the department’s research portfolio, students will gain an understanding of the relevance of the various approaches and theories for the field of sport and outdoor life and each student’s chosen specialisation sport.
Assessment Methods
Students must submit a 15-page essay in which an independently selected topic is discussed in relation to some of the approaches that are examined in the course. Graded mark.
