Course Description

The course provides an introduction to Norwegian cultural history from 1850 to 1950, and includes the following topics:

  • An introduction to material and non-material cultural heritage
  • The main characteristics of economic and social changes
  • Principle characteristics of social interaction and cooperation in towns and villages
  • Ideas and conceptions
  • Subcultures in Norwegian society
  • Nation-building processes

Assessment Methods

Obligatory individual home assignment which counts for 40 % of the final grade. 5-hour written final individual examination which counts for 60 % of the final grade. Graded marks. Both the home assignment and the final examination must achieve passing marks in order to receive a passing mark for the course.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
