Essay Writing 2011

Course Description

A satisfactory competence in English requires the ability to produce long and coherent texts on a wide variety of subjects. This course will emphasise practical training in authoring well-formulated texts in varied contexts, with particular stress on literary essays.

Assessment Methods

The assessment of the course is related to three assignments. The first assignment will not receive a lettered grade, but must receive a passing mark; students who are given a fail on this assignment will be given the opportunity to re-submit their work. The second assignment counts for 40 percent, and the third for 60 percent of the total course grade; it is not possible to re-submit. The last two assignments will be graded on a scale from A to F, where E is the lowest passing grade. All work must be submitted before deadlines that will be set at the beginning of the semester; all assignments must obtain a pass mark for the student to receive a final pass mark in the course.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
