Learning outcome

After completing the course, the students should have the following qualifications regarding knowledge, skills, and general competence:

• Knowledge about the general status of drinking water supplies, sewage schemes and waste solutions in Norway as well as current legislation
• Knowledge about the use of surface water and groundwater as a drinking water source, various purification methods and requirements, common practices, and protection of drinking water sources
• Familiarity with the main principles of various conventional and natural methods to clean wastewater
• General knowledge about the sludge treatment methods, challenges and applications of sludge
•Familiarity with waste disposal methods and challenges associated with different types of waste
• Ability to assess and evaluate various solutions for drinking water supplies, sewage schemes, sludge treatment and waste management based on current laws and regulations
• Ability to participate in planning and implementing interdisciplinary projects that include solutions for water supply, sewage and waste disposal

Assessment Methods

Grades will be given in two parts: a project assignment counts 30% and a written final examination (4 hours) will count for 70% of the final grade. Both exams must be passed.
