Course Description

The course focuses on contract law and providing students with an understanding of the legal rules which regulate the legal relations between sellers and buyers of property when contracts are entered into through estate agents, such as the legal rules which are applied in the cases of breach of contract. Students will gain knowledge regarding specific topics within the area of housing law and relevant rules with regard to insurance. They will be provided with an introduction to the rules concerning the marketing of property businesses, including the Consumer Ombudsman’s powers and sanctions. The importance of the laws concerning marketing for the drafting of property advertising and brochures will also be examined. Students will also gain an understanding of the legal rules that regulate access to the purchase of property, and the legal rules that set limits on how property may be used, as well as the legal rules regarding the boundaries between properties. Students will also gain understanding of the legal rules regarding rights of use of owners and public aspects, legal questions in relation to established customs, encumbrances and the boundaries of property. They will gain knowledge of nature conservation and environmental laws of importance for the sale of property. Students will also learn rules within the areas of family, inheritance and probate law, and be introduced to allodial rights and the right of succession to allodial land, especially with regard to the importance of rules regarding the sale of property. Students will also gain knowledge of the rules regarding inheritance taxes.

Assessment Methods

Individual written examination, 4 hours.
