Logistics 6054
Learning outcome
The course will provide students with knowledge that will enable them to address the challenges businesses encounter in their dealings with customers in relation to delivering the right product, at the right time, the right place and to the right price. Developing good logistical solutions has become more and more important at a time of sharp international competition. Because of the emphasis on costs and effective solutions for customers, businesses need to have thorough knowledge of logistics. By means of systematic thinking / theory, and by taking as a starting point value chains, an overview is acquired, which is vital when trying to reach optimal logistical solutions.
Course Description
The course will provide students with an insight into how logistics systems are structured. The main concepts are: logistics quality, delivery service and analysis of costs. The distribution aspect of the logistics system will be especially focused on, but also the internal perspective will be of importance. Logistics as a tool used in the competition with other businesses will be considered at the end of the course. It is important to emphasise that although there are many techniques one can and must use in order to reach adequate solutions, it is logistics as a part of managerial responsibility that forms the main element in the lectures and work on the course.
