Learning outcome

The students will acquire an understanding of technology, tools, standards and languages related to databases and web. The students will also acquire skills in programming on the database server, and in the development of database driven web applications.

Course Description

Architecture for database systems and database driven web applications. Business logic in the database server, using stored procedures, cursors and triggers. XML, validation of XML using DTD and XML Schema, transformation of XML using XSLT. Semi structured databases and XML. The development of database driven web applications, HTML forms, sessions. Class libraries for database programming.

Assessment Methods

A 4-hour written, individual examination. A number of obligatory assignments submitted during the course must be approved before the student will be permitted to sit the final examination.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
