Learning outcome

The students will acquire an understanding of design, implementation and administration of database systems, and gain experience in the use of SQL and with data modeling using E/R.

Course Description

Database systems; usage and functionality. The use of SQL; table definition, select queries and data manipulation. The relational model. Data modeling using E/R, normalization, implementation of data models. Physical storage of database tables; indexes. Database administration, user administration. Transactions. Introduction to database application development.

Teaching and Learning Methods

4-5 hours of lectures, exercises and guidance per week.

Assessment Methods

A 4-hour written, individual examination. A number of obligatory assignments submitted during the course must be approved before the student will be permitted to sit the final examination.
