Learning outcome

The students will acquire knowledge about important basic concepts in datacommunication and computer networks, and local area network components. They will be able to install and manage a Windows Server computer with Active Directory Domain Services, and Windows client computers in a Windows domain. The students should also be able to implement and manage simple local area networks, wireless networks and programservices in a LAN and Internet.

Course Description

Hardware, communication media, protocols and network components in a local area network (LAN). Services in LAN and Internett. Windows Server and Windows clients in LAN. Server roles, domains, disc management, user management, user groups, permissions, printer management, firewalls, DHCP, DNS and Active Directory. Wireless LANs. Wide area networks (WANs) and technology for Internet access. Lab-exercises includes installing, configuring and managing Windows Server with Active Directory and Windows clients in a "secure" lab-network. Also exercises using WiFi network components.

Teaching and Learning Methods

4-5 hours of lectures, exercises and guidance per week.

Assessment Methods

A 4-hour digital, individual examination. A number of obligatory assignments submitted during the course must be approved before the student will be permitted to sit the final examination.
