Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
The candidate:
- Has comprehensive knowledge of different materials, tools, techniques and other aesthetic means when working with design, architecture, sculpture and environment
- Is able to evaluate quality, suitability and versatile use of different materials and material combinations from an environmental perspective related to recycling and redesign
- Has comprehensive knowledge of the use of digital software and media tools throughout the creative process, from idea to finished product
- Has knowledge of the main features of the historical development of international sculpture, design and architecture in the context of a multicultural society
- Has knowledge of and experience in the use and evaluation of various sculptures in public spaces, both in terms of form and content and as part of the physical environment
- Has basic knowledge of entrepreneurship and innovation
Skills
The candidate:
- Has comprehensive knowledge of and experience with the use of different materials, tools, techniques and other aesthetic techniques in working with design, architecture, sculpture and the environment
- Can use and evaluate the use of digital and interactive media in relation to teaching design, architecture, sculpture and the environment
- Has experience in and knowledge of the evaluation of various design products in the context of form, function and use of materials and in the light of environmental and sustainable development
- Has knowledge of and the ability to describe various types of houses and rooms in light of functional requirements and aesthetic qualities
- Has broad experience in and knowledge of the maintenance of tools and machinery and the organisation of appropriate workshops and spaces for learning, with particular emphasis on functional and aesthetic aspects
- Is able to initiate, plan, implement, document and assess professional and practice-related development projects
General competence
The candidate:
- Is familiar with the documentation of a creative process related to relevant theory and practice and can use this to reflect on didactic skills
Course Description
Course 2: Crafts, design, sculpture and architecture
Part 1: Crafts and design
Part 2: Architecture, sculpture, nature and the environment.
Entrepreneurship and innovation constitute an integral part of the course.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Online part-time course including group meetings on campus. It includes a 3-day workshop at the Notodden campus in addition to teaching in real time online.
Teaching and mentoring methods - both in groups and individually - in real time via the learning platform Nefsis, about 3 hours per week and via Fronter with online classroom discussion forums, online meetings, writing posts and presentations, submissions etc. The group meetings will focus on activities in the workshop involving training in using tools and machines, as well as group projects that focus on creative processes. Students will also be given a thorough introduction to the online learning platform Nefsis and the use of Fronter.
Students will mainly work independently and in groups with online guidance given by the course teacher.
The course is characterized by alternation between practical creative work, theory and didactic reflection.
Compulsory study trips may be carried out during the group meetings.
The relationship between theory and practice
Professional development in the student’s school is a mandatory part of the study programme for students enrolled on a teacher education study programme.
The relationship between creative work, theory and didactic reflection is emphasized.
The students’ own professional practice will be used as a testing ground and basis of reflection.
Assessment Methods
Coursework
4-5 submissions and two counselling sessions.
A minimum of 80% attendance must be fulfilled in order to take the examination.
Students are responsible for keeping themselves up to date concerning coursework requirements and deadlines.
Final assessment
All coursework requirements must be approved before the final assessment at the end of each semester.
Students must submit a portfolio assignment (before the deadline) consisting of selected portions of previously submitted work in addition to a new assignment.
The portfolio will be assessed on a grade scale A-F, where E represents the lowest passing grade.
