Learning outcome

General competence

The candidate has:

  • Basic knowledge and skills in nursing and care that will qualify him/her to care for the sick and disabled
  • The necessary qualifications which will enable him/her to take on the legal and professional responsibility that is given to social educators in the areas of pharmacology and medication management
  • Basic knowledge of first aid

Skills

The candidate is able to:

  • Carry out proper nursing and care work / procedures
  • Carry out proper medication management
  • Perform the appropriate first aid.

The candidate:

  • Has the ability to view nursing and care in a social educational perspective

Course Description

The content of the course is based on the national curriculum’s requirements regarding the distribution of credits, which function as a guideline for the clarification of the course plan.

Medical and Natural Science Topics - 6 ECTS; Nursing and Care - 6 ECTS; Skills and Behaviour Learning - 2 ECTS.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Procedures training; independent study; students’ own efforts related to skills training; lectures, group and individual written reflections. Seventy-five per cent attendance is required in connection with the practical training (which should be documented on a separate form).

Assessment Methods

Course code: 060-E7: Social Educational Work with a Focus on Nursing and Care Procedures and Medication Management

Four-hour individual examination under supervision. Pass / fail. Answers must be 100% correct in order to achieve a passing grade in medication calculation. Examination aids: Norwegian Common Directory of Medicines (Felleskatalogen) and calculator.

There are as many as three course requirements, one of which is an individual test of knowledge and skills in nursing and care procedures. The course requirements must be approved before the completion of the course can be approved. The course requirements are described in the course plan.
