Learning outcome

Knowledge

The candidate:

  • Can plan, perform and document nursing care in an integrated manner and in relation to the individual needs of the patient
  • Can apply appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge about nursing, pathology and pharmacology in a systematic and appropriate manner in relation to simple and complex patient care
  • Can justify and document nursing related to disease processes and treatment in the municipal health services and with mental health work
  • Can include and ensure that the patient and his/her family’s perspective is respected in nursing practice
  • Is familiar with knowledge-based nursing procedures and practices and develops plans in relation to this and to different patients’ needs
  • Is able to apply nursing theories, understand their relevance and put these in the context of practical nursing practice

Skills

The candidate:

  • Is able to demonstrate skills in professional communication and deal with decision-making in simulated complex patient situations
  • Is able to develop plans for knowledge-based practice in caring for patients in local health services and in mental health services

General competence

The candidate:

  • Can explain and discuss ethical, health and social issues for nursing practice, and in relation to gender, age, class and ethnicity
  • Has knowledge of and is able to analyze health promotion and preventative approaches and interventions in community health care and mental health work
  • Can explain and evaluate nursing tasks and functions in the municipal health services and in mental health care and is familiar with overall health policy objectives, frameworks and priorities, including interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration
  • Can analyze current perspectives on mental illness and suffering, including short-term and long-term reactions, symptoms and treatment
  • Can analyze how disease and aging affect people’s basic needs, self care and coping skills
  • Is able to reflect on their own professional development and their own feelings and reactions in interacting with patients, relatives and colleagues (fellow students)

Individual written examination under supervision - 5 hours. Assessed with a grade.
