Learning outcome
Knowledge
The candidate can:
- Analyze how long-term illness, complex failing health and old age affect elderly people’s ability to cope and their capacity to fulfil their basic needs
- Critically evaluate the nursing care that is provided at the institution where the student carries out his/her practical training in light of the governance structures in the municipality
- Integrate knowledge from the study programme’s courses when planning, implementing, documenting, reporting and evaluating nursing practice for elderly patients in nursing homes
Skills
The candidate can:
- Take responsibility for supervising and delegating work for a group of colleagues/students
- Carry out a planned teaching session
- Document communication skills in interacting with elderly and senile patients
General competence
The candidate can:
- Analyze the relationships between people’s health, disease, living conditions, culture and society
- Defend his/her views on ethical, health, social and cultural issues in reporting and in meetings with partners
- Impart knowledge of his/her own practice in interdisciplinary and inter-departmental cooperation
- Take responsibility for analyzing and communicating his/her own learning processes and outcomes in aims - supervision - and evaluation talks
Course Description
Clinical studies - 4 weeks - nursing homes with a focus on the integration of knowledge, skills and attitudes related to:
- The patient
- The nurse
- Interaction
- Context
Teaching and Learning Methods
Clinical studies - 4 weeks in nursing home; demonstration - practice - guidance - reflection.
Assessment Methods
Clinical studies, 4 weeks in the community health services - nursing home - graded pass/fail.
All previous courses in clinical studies must have received a passing grade.
