Course Description

The course builds on Art, Culture and Creativity 1. The knowledge area emphasizes project work where dramatic, visual and musical forms of expression are included. The student will acquire specialized knowledge and skills in forms of aesthetic expression. He/she will also gain experience in becoming aware of their role as a leader in creative processes, and will, as leader of aesthetic activity, facilitate and reflect on the child’s participation and perspective. The student’s communication skills, documentation ability and level of reflection will be enhanced and further developed via the period of practical training in the kindergarten; here, the student will be able to strengthen their understanding of children’s behaviour, learning and expression through observation.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Practical creative work: students’ work on practical and creative activities with dramatic, visual and musical expressions.

Professional presentations or productions for children: these will be professionally assessed.

Documentation and didactic/theoretical reflection: students will gain experience in documenting children’s activities by working with a project in the kindergarten and carry out didactic reflection where practice and theory are included.

Theoretical subject material: the student will acquire theoretical knowledge through the study of subject material, lectures and discussions. The work will be done in groups and individually.

The mandatory parts of the course are described in the semester plan.

Assessment Methods

An individual didactic assignment, where the student uses practical group work and the theoretical course material to make a written or oral presentation.

A single letter grade (A to F) will be entered on the diploma, where A represents the highest and E the lowest passing grade. Each element of the course must be completed with a passing mark in order for the student to achieve a passing mark in the course. Please refer to the Telemark University College Examination Regulations for further information.

The course is subject to minor changes.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
