Mathematics 6001

Learning outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have gained knowledge of basic mathematical concepts, methods and models that other courses in the study programme can build on. Students will have gained a foundation in the subject that will enable them to discuss key mathematical models both analytically and graphically. They will have mastered basic techniques and methods that will enable them to work with relevant models, and they will be able to formulate their own models in relation to relevant problems and interpret the models of others.

Course Description

Repetition of fundamental mathematical concepts and calculations. Functions of one variable: Differentiation, integration, graphs and optimisation. Exponential and logarithmic functions, and basic financial mathematics. Functions of several variables: partial derivation and extremal problems.

Teaching and Learning Methods

6 hours of lectures and exercises per week.

Assessment Methods

5-hour, individual written examination. Mandatory assignments must be passed before the student will be permitted to take the examination. Note that any approved assignments from previous years do not count.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
