Introduction to tourism 6072
Learning outcome
After ended studies the student should:
- Possess basic knowledge about national and international tourism and travelling, important concepts in the tourism terminology, important actors and extended effects of tourism
- Possess skills to use the most important concepts for sytemizing, analysis and discussion of tourism subjects in practice.
Course Description
Following topics can/will be focused:
- History
- Travel systems and -patterns
- Market and consumer behaviour
- Attractions and other tourism core industries
- Tourism as business. Rural tourism
- Organizing and managing tourism
- Summer- and winter tourism
- Cabin tourism
- Experience aspects and tourism
- Travel motives
- Work realtions and competency
- Quality and service
Teaching and Learning Methods
3-4 hours teaching per week for one semester. The classes will vary between traditional lectures, seminars, practical tasks, student presentations and mandatory written reports/hand-in exercises.
Assessment Methods
Portfolio evaluation with following elements:
a) Project hand-in in three parts. Completed in studentgroups (40 %).
b) Final written examination, 3 hours (60 %).
c) Oral presentation (pass/fail).
Evaluation with graded marks (A-E). All three examination elements must qualify for a passing mark.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
