Learning outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

The candidate:

• Has knowledge of the structure of Linux, its propagation and uses
• Is able to master the key commands in text-based Linux
• Has knowledge of basic shell programming
• Has knowledge of basic open-source applications for Linux
• Is able to perform the installation, configuration and operation of a Linux workstation
• Is able to perform installation of software under Linux
• Is able to master file and user management

Course Description

The history and of Linux. Linux distributions.
Terminal window, Linux commands, options and arguments. Shell programming. Configuration by editing system files, services and settings. Important applications. Linux in a network. Practical uses of Linux.

Teaching and Learning Methods

4-5 hours of lectures, exercises and guidance per week.

Assessment Methods

Compulsory assignments must be approved before students will be allowed to sit the individual, written 4-hour final examination.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
